Membership Qualifications

Membership into The Brotherhood is open for any male that would like to improve himself. Members are required to accept our Creed FRATERNITY, RESPONSIBILITY, and CREATIVITY). Members must also pass all seven of their classes in order to attend the field trips. Members are also expected to not have any disciplinary referrals

 

 

History

The Kenwood Academy “BROTHERHOOD" is an intensive student leadership group that was an idea by Dr. Shelby T. Wyatt. It was brought to fruition by collaboration with Senior Kyle McGhee and Howard Stokes. This mentoring project was organized January 9, 2004 with ten charter members. They are: Kyle McGhee, Howard Stokes, William Smith, Jeremy Bolden, Sharod Merritt, Michael Smith,Craig Story, Andrew Williams, Evan Little and Jerami Watson.

 

Purpose

 The purpose of this project is to train freshmen males of Kenwood Academy to become leaders for themselves, their families, their communities, and school. This program meets once a week after school in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. room on the second floor. The program will consist of activities that will foster academic excellence, emotional maturity, communal responsibility, and career exploration. The activities will consist of open forums, tutoring, homework/ class work assistance, college visits, computer exploration, public speaking, and creative expressions through poetry, rap, short stories. To establish an effective relationship, the activities also include sports, games, and watching appropriate video movies.

 
 

 

The Current Kenwood Academy Brotherhood

 

Weekly/Monthly Meetings

The Kenwood Brotherhood meets weekly, normally on Friday’s, in the Dr. Martin Luther King Room.  The meetings start at 3:10 p.m.  Members that miss more than 2 consecutive meetings will receive a notice of non-attendance. On the third absence they will be placed on an IN-ACTIVE list.

 

The Gates Scholars component of the Brotherhood meets every Tuesday to prepare for the Gates Millennium Scholarship.  Membership is open to any 7th-11th grader that has a 3.0 g.p.a. The meetings begin at 3:15 p.m. in the counseling department.

At least once a month both groups attend a field trip to a college/university or cultural event.

 

 

Thursday May 8,2008 The brotherhood 5th  Annual Cumulating Award Ceremonies. It will start at 5:00 in Kenwood's Auditorium.
